Dinky 581/981 Horse Box. Near mint/boxed. Scarce dual-numbered transition box.
Price: £130.00
This item is no longer for sale, price for reference only.
Notes
This horse box has a bright and shining maroon body cast in aluminium, with complete “EXPRESS HORSE BOX HIRE SERVICE” lettering on both sides. The “BRITISH RAILWAYS” sign above the cab and at both sides are complete, too.

20 mph sign is in place on the hinged rear ramp.
A few little chips at the hinged rear ramp and at the side opening door. The occasional little rub or mark besides. Still presents very well indeed with a high lustre to the all original paint finish.
The striped picture box is the more unusual dual numbered box, so marking the transition from 581 to 981 in 1954.

Some wear at corners of the lid and a repaired tear. A little grubby now. Shopkeeper’s price is just about visible on the lid. Small area of surface removal. ‘LF’ (lead free) label is still present at box end.
