Dinky Toys No. 51 Famous Liners
Famous Liners by Dinky Toys, No. 51. Scarce early set - and a First for QDT! Excellent overall - in bright original card box. From The Catania Collection. Starting bid £150. Please note that QDT apply 12.5% buyer's commission.
Notes
A rare survivor from October 1934.
This scarce set comprises:
Italia Line "Rex’
Furness Withy “Queen of Bermuda”
C.P.R “Empress of Britain”
Norddeutscher Lloyd “Europa”
P.& O “Straithaird” (very good plus only, lacks a funnel)
Cunard-White Star Brittannic"
Nearly all are graded excellent with original paint finish throughout. Some inevitable exposed edge chips and as is nearly always the case with Dinky toys from this era due to unstable alloys, there is fatigue (crazing).
Clean and crisp light blue card inner base to which all the liners would have been strung originally. No tears, repairs or graffiti. Colours are vibrant – exceptional.
Attractive lid continues the them with a complete paper label and strongly-coloured card. Light wear – this box has survived very well indeed and looks as if it has been in storage for decades. Complete informative yellow paper label on a short lid end which actually dates this particular set from October, 1934.
