Corgi Toys Trophy 301 Triumph TR2
Trophy Triumph TR2 Car by Corgi Toys No. 301. Very scarce. Near mint plus/boxed, with packing. From The Hastings Collection.
Notes
A small range of Corgi models (5 in total) were gold-plated in 1961 and were sold by Marks & Spencer. Few are available and are sought-after nowadays, even if they did not sell particularly well at the time.
This is a fine example of Corgi 301 Triumph TR2 in all original condition with the distinctive mirror ‘gold’ mirror-plated finish, red seating, steering wheel and intact windscreen (often missing!).
Few light surface rubs, small marks. Shiny base. Detailed cast wheels (dulling to one wheel – the rest are shiny). The racing car is mounted on a black moulded base with a gold-edged name label. Also present is the piece of clear perspex which fits over the model when on the stand (notably complete with the tags which secure it into the black base).
The special Trophy box is complete, clean and bright, with a crisp feel. TRIUMPH TR2 label at an end flap. A little age/handling wear and a very small tear.
An interesting piece of Corgi history – and not an easy find.
