South African Dinky 144
Dinky 144 Volkswagen 1500. Rare SOUTH AFRICAN issue in PALE GREY-BLUE. Excellent plus/boxed (wear but complete). From a rare group of South African Dinky models from A Phenomenal Collection.
Notes
Unfinished models were exported to South Africa from 1966. They were sent as castings and painted and assembled there, largely as a way of getting around the laws prohibiting export of finished goods to South Africa at this time. All housed in Dinky boxes with some Afrikaans text and of course most importantly the Arthur E.Harris print on the box.
Finished in original and delicate light grey-blue with shiny spun wheels, silver trim, gloss base, South African rivets, and smooth-running fine tread tyres.
In excellent plus, original condition:
Few bumper marks and a little rough casting. Minor ‘mottling’ to the paint finish in places.
The correct Arthur E. Harris Dinky box is complete and brightly-coloured.
Rather worn now with some wear and (little) tears at some end flaps. Original period price label at an end flap. Area of surface loss at another end flap.
One of the rarest Dinky models.
