Corgi Gift Set 40
Corgi Gift Set 40 The Avengers. Near mint - very near mint/boxed. Lotus with spun wheels. With three ORIGINAL plastic umbrellas and both figures of John Steed and Emma Peel. From The Lewes Collection.
Notes
This attractive Gift Set was inspired by the t.v. show ‘The Avengers’ and was issued between 1966-69.
It comprises:
1) John Steed’s Bentley in red and black finish, with a combination of silver and pale gold silver spoked wheels. Complete with all parts, and includes the figure of John Steed at the wheel. Very near mint condition.
Little stray dab of factory silver at a rear running board edge and a small mark besides.
2) Emma Peel’s Lotus Elan S2 is in bright, white finish. Suspension on shaped spun wheels. Well-shaped original tyres. Little marking, mostly at the rear. Near mint (marking at rear exposed edge). Original figure of Emma Peel.
This set comes with three plastic umbrellas! These are notably the originals – so often they can go astray, particularly bearing in mind how small they are and how they were never stored in a packet but merely slotted into holes on the plinth. So many that we see have (pretty decent) replacements but they do lack the fine detailing of the originals. These originals have the furling details to the ‘rolled-up’ cloth part of the umbrella and delicate details on the handle, fine point at the base. Little details perhaps but really nice to see!
Card plinth is in excellent condition with bright graphics on crisp card. One wheel slot has a little tear. Minor wear besides including a couple of very small stains. Complete with both pull-tabs intact at the sides.
Outer box is complete and strongly-coloured. Minor age wear including the occasional light scuff and a very small end flap tear. Period pencilled price.
A sought-after Gift Set.
