Very rare to come to the market place, this is one of a very small range of Gift Sets sold through the FAO Schwarz toy shops in the U.S. This particular example is a 4-part set which comprises:
1) Corgi 215 Ford Thunderbird Open Sports. White, flat spun wheel issue, Very near mint. Small factory paint blemish on a rear wing. Box has wear but is complete.
2) Corgi 219 Plymouth Sports Suburban Station Wagon. Flat spun wheels. Very, very near mint. Box has lighter wear. Part-removed pencilled writing on a non-picture side.
3) Corgi Gift Set 2. Near mint plus – very near mint. Vibrant glossy colours on this early version. Flat spun wheels. With horse and card plinth (few wheel slot tears). Small repaired tear to box and some age wear besides. Early Corgi Club Membership Form.
4) Corgi 409 Forward Control Jeep. Very near mint. Shaped spun wheels.Crisp, bright box.
The most important component of this set is, of course, this most unusual and striking FAO Schwarz box!
Strongly-coloured in deep yellow with a country and town scene on the lid. Complete F.A.O. Schwarz label at a lid end. Some water staining, light wear and a small seam tear.
