Notes
A first for QDT.
This is a rare colour version in white with a bright red interior. Part of a very small run, and very rare to come to the market place.
This example is in authentic condition, with barely a mark. Note that this is not a Corgi 258 The Saint’s Volvo model without the labels!
There are a few key differences i.e. there is no driver in this 228 issue (whereas the Corgi 258 Saint’s issue has a driver). Note too that this model was made before the Saint’s Volvo and has 228 cast on the base. Note that the (later) 258 Saint’s Volvo has this number blanked out.
The paint finish is authentic. Good to see the tiny flakes of white paint around the original rivets, too – so this is not simply a repainted 258 Volvo either!
We have now had several conversations with collectors and can say that this model is one of at least three! Not unique then, but certainly very, very rare.
Opinion is divided as to whether this is a colour trial, part of a very short production run, or, most excitingly, a precursor of the Saint’s Volvo, testing the white finish before C258 was launched.
Crisp and clean card picture box has a light storage crease and very minor wear besides. Good to see that there are not traces of any other colour inside the box either.
An exceptional and scarce issue.
