Notes
The Monty Calme landmark Corgi Collection, covering the width and breadth of Corgi models amassed over decades by an exuberant collector. The Monty Calme collection is a truly astonishing gathering of the best of Corgi models and ephemera, including rare and unique pieces and point of sale items. The largest collection we have ever seen.
Monty says: “The VW Breakdown model was never produced in this colour. I bought this colour trial model from an ex-Corgi employee”.
This VW Breakdown model looks perfectly familiar in this light ‘Corgi ’ blue shade – no wonder, since Corgi used this colour shade for Corgi 441 VW ’Toblerone’ (1963-67).
The Corgi 490 VW Breakdown model however, was issued in avocado green with a red interior, and also in white with ‘Racing Club’ decals, yellow interior. Issued 1966-72.
This colour trial example has shaped spun wheels, well-shaped original tyres, spare tyre stowed, and the usual selection of chromed tools. Tow hook and winch. Window glazing. Rivetted base.Tiny fleck of factory blue paint immediately surrounding the rivet.
