D943
Dinky 943 Leyland Octopus Tanker-ESSO. Excellent plus/boxed. Dated 1962. From The Reference Collection.
Notes
This sought-after Dinky Supertoy tanker was issued between 1958-64. This particular example is dated 1961 by the Dinky stamp inside the box lid.
This Tanker presents well with an intense deep red finish throughout and diecast ‘Supertoy’ ridged wheels (later issues had plastic hubs), Virtually intact lettering and stripe on both sides. None of the usual problems often found with these models i.e. rust, crazing, discolouration to the white transfer, flaking paint to the ladder, no dents in the tanker or indeed any rust spots.
Very close to mint in appearance, although close inspection reveals a little retouching ( i.e. at one side of the roof, at some wheel arches and at the end of the white stripe on one side).
Delicate rear transfer is a little ‘mottled’ now.
Bright baseplate and spare wheel stowed. Black original radial tyres run well.
The striped pictorial box is very clean and bright. None of the usual handling/age grubbiness. Repaired split to one lid seam. Light corner crush. Shiny staples. A little shelf rubbing to the box base underside.
Sunfaded strip at the bottom edge.
